After week seven this is my eighth blog writing for week eight and in this blog writing I am going to explain about each day experiences on week 8. As we are all about to overcome the pandemic situation to create the physical environment, we face another problem in the shape of 2nd lockdown which was very unexpected and sad for whole country as well. So, college has decided to run the classes regularly through the online classes until the situation gets normal. Although it was bold decision and may not be as affected as physical classes but it gives continuity for student to study and gain the knowledge regarding the modules. The online classes will be on Google Classroom with same routine and timetable. Inside this blog writing I am about to discuss about all my week experiences and also about the Artificial intelligence and its advantages on modern generation and also its disadvantages on technical era. At the end I will conclude this blog with all the summary and combine ideas of what are the challenges still left.
Week 8 has started with Monday after getting the notification of lecture videos on Google classes at 9:00 AM to all days. I watched all the lecture videos posted by the respected teachers on YouTube. There were 3 videos of each 3 modules and in the videos, I got my opportunity to learn many new things like What is an AI and about its different components, how to download ubuntu operating system, how to use different commands on ubuntu Linux, List, dictionary, sets on java etc. On Tuesday there was our tutorial class of two different modules. At 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM there was the tutorial class of 1 hour and 30 minutes Fundamentals of computing by Sujan Shrestha Sir. During the class we mainly discussed on problems of many students regarding downloading of Ubuntu Linux on pc. After the 1st class there was another class at 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM of Introductory of Programming and Problem Solving of 1 hour and 30 minutes by Deepson Shrestha Sir. The main objectives of this class were to revised the lecture class and go deeply to the basics of Java’s Set, Dictionaries, List. During the class we practice different structure and codes on java. On Wednesday there was our tutorial class of Academic Skills ad team-based learning at 11:00 AM to 12:30 AM of 1 hour and 30 minutes by Rohit Parajuli sir and Kritika Tulhadhar madam. During the class we discussed about the Artificial Intelligence and its different facts. Also got assigned to make presentation on components of Artificial Intelligence for upcoming Workshop class. So here is some knowledge and facts about AI.
Artificial Intelligence is the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to form tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. The term is frequently applied to the project of developing systems endowed with the intellectual processes characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience. Despite continuing advances in computer processing speed and memory capacity, there are as yet no programs that can match human flexibility over wider domains or in tasks requiring much everyday knowledge
1. 24/7 Availability
- Machines don’t require frequent breaks and refreshments as like human beings. That can be programmed to work for long hours and can able to perform the job continuously without getting bored or distracted or even tired.
2. Day to Day Application
- In our daily needs, a smartphone also becomes the 4th necessity for the human along with dress, food & shelter. Design the methods for automation by using learning and perception have become a common phenomenon in our everyday lives.
3. Digital Assistance
- Robots can’t identify the sentimental factor of the user. It actually programmed for only think logically and take the right program decisions based on the existing experience taught to the machine. Emotions can’t be identifying by the machines that may be dissatisfying the customer.
4. Handling Repetitive Jobs
- Repeated jobs are tedious in nature. That kind of jobs can be easily handled with the help of AI algorithms. These kinds of job don’t require much intelligence in between the process. Machines can think much faster than humans and can perform multi-tasking to obtain the best results
5. Medical Applications
- One of the great advantages of Artificial Intelligence is utilized in the field of medicine. We can identify the numerous numbers of medical applications which rely on AI. Doctors/Physician assesses the patient’s health-related data and intimates the risk factors to the customers via the health care devices with the help of artificial machine intelligence.
However, when you look at the brighter side of a thing, you should acknowledge that there is a darker side to it. Similarly, despite several advantages that AI offers, it also has some disadvantages that we can’t ignore. So, let us look at some of the major disadvantages of AI implementation.
1. HIGH COST OF IMPLEMENTATION
Setting up AI-based machines, computers, etc. entails huge costs given the complexity of engineering that goes into building one. Further, the astronomical expense doesn’t stop there as repair and maintenance also run into thousands of dollars
2. CAN’T REPLACE HUMANS
It is beyond any doubt that machines perform much more efficiently as compared to a human being. But even then, it is practically impossible to replace humans with AIs, at least in the near future, because you can’t build human intelligence in a machine as it is a gift of nature. So, no matter how smart a machine can become, it can never replace a human.
3. DOESN’T IMPROVE WITH EXPERIENCE
One of the most amazing characteristics of human cognitive power is its ability to develop with age and experience. However, the same can’t be said about AIs as they are machines that can’t improve with experience, rather it starts to wear and tear with time.
4. LACKS CREATIVITY
As already mentioned above – AIs are not built for creative pieces of work. So, it should be crystal clear by now that creativity or imagination is not the forte of the AIs. Although they can help you in designing and creating something special, they still can’t compete with the human brain. Their creativity is limited to the creative ability of the person who programs and commands them.
5. RISK OF UNEMPLOYMENT
With rapid development being made in the field of AI, the question that plagues our intuitive brain is that – will AI replace humans? Honestly, I am not sure whether AIs will lead to higher unemployment or not. But AIs are likely to take over the majority of the repetitive tasks, which are largely binary in nature and involve minimum subjectivity.
Artificial intelligence is on the rise as it is integrated into every aspect of our daily lives; from computers, video games, and even kitchen appliances. As humans, we have allowed AI to infiltrate our daily lives as they complete the simplest of task for us, however they are not completed to the best of their abilities. As humans, we are able to complete a task to the prime of our capacity through the combination of our experiences, emotions, and logic. On the other hand, artificial intelligence formulates a conclusion through a series of mathematical equations, numerous numbers of code, and a series of zeros and ones in order to mimic our human capabilities of decision making. It is in your own hand to decide weather AI is good or bad or what changes will it brings in further future.
On Thursday there was our workshop class of Academic Skills and Team Based Learning at 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM of 2 hour and 30 minutes by Manish Deuja Sir and Rohit Parajuli Sir. There was our presentation on different components of Artificial Intelligence. On Friday there was our workshop class of Fundamental of Computing at 11:30 AM to 2:30 AM of 3 hours by Sujan Shrestha Sir during the class we revised the lecture class on perfect manner by performing different types of commands on Ubuntu Linux which was very unique and fun. From these commands we get to know how powerful and secured operating system is Ubuntu Linux. Although it is not beginner’s friendly but if you know the basics then you can use it with free of cost. Saturday was holiday as usual so I done my workshop work and practice all the questions uploaded on Classroom. On Sunday there was our Workshop class of Introductory of computing of 3 hour straight at 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM by Deepson Shrestha Sir. During the class we discussed practice different questions regarding Workshop uploaded on classroom. There were many problems on understanding the questions but with the help of Deepson Sir we completed the questions by solving it through different methods.
Although week 8 was fully based on online class but the knowledge and the information were more important than other weeks in my opinion. The more the week passes harder the module become. So still there are many challenges coming through my door and comes without knocking. The problems on understanding the classes due to the problems regarding electricity and Internet. I have lot of thing to change and keep updating the things regarding the module and prepare for upcoming weeks. I hope the pandemic that whole country is facing right now will terminated and hoping to get involved in physical classes on campus as soon as possible.
